Thursday-Family and friends fill a standing room only, excitement filled gymnasium. It is a celebration of academic achievements. Pins, cords and plaques leave the stage in hundreds of capable hands in recognition of a year’s or maybe years’ worth of grueling hard work. Others with empty hands, have fought equally hard to cross the finish line. Their awards imprinted heavily in heart and head. All celebrate.
All have one foot barely touching the familiar while simultaneously two hands reach out to the unknown. Almost done. The finish line is right around the corner. Joy escapes in a repeated shout at the mention of “Congratulations to the class of 2014!” Enthusiasm eeks out of so many students who are ready to get going. Pride swells between the walls. A community surrounds and embraces some of it’s youngest members and Sunday it will let them go.
Mamas are remembering their senior’s birth, their first steps, their first words. We think about that first day of kindergarten, the first day of middle school, and all those crazy moments in between. We wonder how the four years of high school zoomed by in a flash of hurry and worry. We scan through years of memories, years of labor, years of joy combined with moments of fear, moments of terror and moments of sheer exhilaration. Love pictures of so many moments speeding through our heads and hearts. Smiling deeply. Applauding loudly. Celebrating with community as a community should. This mama couldn’t be prouder. This mama says…….. job well done Michael Dean Thomas Krogman!
